Design and Build Your Dream ADU in San Diego

Experienced & Reliable Remodelers since 2015

What is an ADU?

For over ten years, SBX Eco Construction has proudly supported San Diego families in bringing their home improvement dreams to life

An Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) is a small, secondary housing unit located on the same lot as a primary residence. ADUs can be fully equipped with their own kitchen, bathroom, and living space, making them suitable for various uses.

ADUs can take various forms, including detached units, garage conversions, or attached units. They are a popular solution for increasing housing density in urban areas and maximizing property use

Types of ADUs We Build

DETACHED ADU

A detached ADU is a self-contained living space that is separate from the main residence on a property

Detached ADUs often have specific zoning regulations and permitting requirements, which can vary by location.

ATTACHED ADU

An attached ADU is a secondary living space that is physically connected to the main residence.

attached ADUs must comply with local zoning laws and permitting requirements.

CONVERSION

A garage conversion is the process of transforming an existing garage into a functional living space. This can involve various modifications and renovations to create an independent unit or an additional room.

How many ADUs can I build?

The number of ADUs (Accessory Dwelling Units) you can build depends on a few factors—especially your property zoning, lot size, and local city regulations. In California, most homeowners are allowed to add one detached ADU, one conversion ADU (like a garage or basement remodel), and one Junior ADU (JADU) within the main home.

OUR PROCESS

Our streamlined process guides you from the first idea to the final walk-through, with a strong focus on quality craftsmanship, timely execution, and results that reflect your vision.

Phone Consultation

We begin with a friendly chat to understand your property, vision, and goals. Within 1–2 days, you’ll receive a preliminary feasibility review: zoning insights, overlay considerations, and potential challenges.

1

During your in-home consultation, our Project Specialist will assess your space, present tailored ADU strategies, and break down pricing that works with your vision.

In‑Home Meeting & Proposal

2

In 8–12 weeks, we conduct:

  • Site surveys (planimetric, topographic)

  • Utility and zoning analysis

  • Floor plans, 3D renders, and exterior elevations

  • Budgeting and assessment of any HOA or permitting hurdles

This Phase ensures your goals align with what local codes allow—and gives you a clear total project estimate

Feasibility Study & Concept Design

3

Once you approve the feasibility stage, we prepare full architectural drawings, structural reports, energy compliance, and permitting documents. Concurrently, you finalize material selections from our look book. We then issue a fixed-price construction agreement, guaranteed for up to 6 months during the permit process.
